SPAR Austria has taken Austrian shoppers needs into account of wanting fresh and healthy food products and knowing the origin of the products they purchase. This was taken into consideration during the planning of training for their staff in sustainability. Approximately 2,500 trainees have been given a wide range of knowledge about responsible shopping and reasonable handling of resources. The highlight of the training was the ‘SPAR gives a clear signal’ information days in all SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR stores. These were organised by the trainees themselves, informing customers about sustainable products. The trainees set up food tasting and answered all customer questions regarding responsible shopping. A sustainable souvenir of a calendar on sustainable shopping was handed over to customers. The new training tool was introduced and developed by SPAR and links sustainability with product knowledge.
