SPAR Shandong and Neighborhood Committee Celebrate China's Lantern Festival
SPAR Shandong partner Jiajiayue Group and local neighborhood committee jointly organized an exciting campaign at SPAR Yijia Store to celebrate China’s Lantern Festival on the morning February 9. The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first Chinese lunar month, and traditionally ends the Chinese New Year period. In 2017 it falls on February 11. According to China’s folk customs, people get together to celebrate with different activities, including guessing riddles, lighting lanterns, making Chinese steamed pastries, eating Tangyuan (glutinous rice balls).

Shoppers at the store enjoyed themselves by making 12 animals shaped Chinese pastries (12 animals of the Chinese zodiac). The winners of the best pastries were awarded a box of Tangyuan supported by SPAR Shandong.

Tangyuan is more than just food. It plays an important role in cultural inheritance. Senior people show children how to make our traditional Chinese food, as good traditions should be passed down from one generation to the next.

Shoppers of different ages are very interested in guessing the riddles written on lanterns. If shoppers have solutions to the riddles, they can go to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. SPAR Shangdong also showed our shoppers how to make Chinese lanterns with red packets, a very easy and amazing do-it-yourself experience.

It is such good kind of experience to participate in SPAR Shandong neighborhood program. Shoppers not only enjoyed the festival atmosphere and understood the cultural connotations better, but also established more intimate relationship with SPAR Shandong. This is a good demonstration of good neighbor good helper.
