SPAR China Buyers Visit Loquat Orchards in Ya'an, Sichhuan
In May, Loquat fruits in west-central valley area Ya’an, Sichuan are ripen fully and ready to harvest. SPAR China buying team visited the loquat orchards to purchase “Five Star” loquat fruits on 4 May. Loquats are indigenous to southwestern China, and are wind tolerant and grow best in full sun. Loquat fruits, growing in clusters, are big, succulent, tangy flavor flesh with high sweetness (sweetness analyzer indicates 16.6%, higher than the watermelon sweetness 10%-13%). For the highest quality fruit the clusters are bagged to protect from sunburn and eliminate bird damage.
Harvesting is somewhat labor intensive and the difficulty of handling the fragile fruit, SPAR China buyers visit the orchard to make sure all the fruits are harvested, packed and transported in SPAR standard process. The fruits are very popular and sold very well at SPAR stores in Sichuan and Shandong. More loquat fruits will be launched at SPAR stores in other regions over the next couple of weeks.
