SPAR Switzerland is determined to minimize heavy traffic frequency and thereby reduce CO2 emission in an efficient and sustainable way. The road traffic infrastructure in Switzerland is chronically overloaded and CO2 emissions contribute significantly to climate change. Within the context of CSR, SPAR Switzerland implemented responsible and sustainable traffic management some years ago. Thanks to intelligent distribution logistics, SPAR minimizes its road traffic frequency efficiently. Using computer-assisted software, the goods are combined and the vehicles are used to full capacity (95% on average). All trucks are equipped with consumption reduced and toxic optimized diesel alternators with the latest generation of engines. The drivers are thoroughly trained to focus on toxic reduced driving. Within two years, consumption has been reduced by nearly 5%, corresponding to 45,000 litres of diesel and a CO2 reduction of more than 112,000 kg per year.
